Redefining the job search experience
As a job seeker who is still in the job hunting market phase, I understand how daunting job search can be which influenced my decision to design a job search platform for job seekers. Quest is a job search platform designed to simplify the job-seeking process for job seekers in any job field. How do I aim to do this? By merging design principles and UX strategies with a deep understanding of what users really need.
Understanding Users: Unveiling the Job Seeker Persona
To build a job search platform that truly serves job seekers, their diverse needs, pain points, and dreams needed to be understood. So, I started user research, conducting surveys and candid interviews with job seekers from different backgrounds and experience levels. This helped me uncover what they liked, what frustrated them, and what they expected from a job search platform.
A Deep Dive into the Competitive Landscape
How can Quest stand out in a competitive market? Through rigorous competitive analysis, gaps in existing platforms were identified and opportunities for differentiation were discovered. By understanding what users appreciated and disliked about current platforms, Quest could be tailored to address those pain points.
Crafting Intuitive User Journeys Challenge
How can I ensure that users find the platform intuitive and easy to navigate? Guided by UX laws and heuristics, I designed user journeys that prioritized simplicity and efficiency. Clear call-to-actions, consistent navigation patterns, and logical information hierarchies were integrated to make every interaction seamless
Aesthetics Meets Functionality
How can an appealing and user-friendly visual design be created? I adhered to UI principles, combining a harmonious color palette with legible typography. The interface conveyed professionalism, trustworthiness, and a modern touch. Every UI element, from buttons to forms, underwent meticulous design to ensure a consistent and delightful experience. That’s how I roll.
Home
The home page is a personalized screen for users, born out of the discoveries from different forms of research carried out. Research unveiled that most job search platforms lacked personalization, which could make a product more engaging and inviting. Hence, I included functionalities such as:
- Recommending jobs based on user preferences, skills, experience, and frequent searches.
- A friendly greeting that emulated a human-like interaction, setting a positive tone for user engagement
- Essential statistics and insights into users’ job search progress and activities.
Find jobs
The “find jobs” page gives users the ability to search for their job preferences using the filter feature. Although, the search button is on all pages, users will automatically be directed to this page when they search for jobs. Key functionalities include:
- Job recommendations tailored to user preferences.
- Detailed job descriptions allowing users to check their application eligibility.
- Convenient access to recruiter contact information in case job seekers want to reach out.
Application tracking
The application tracking page contains essential statistics and insights into users’ job search progress and activities. (e.g., applied, in-progress, interview scheduled, etc). This helps users in monitoring and managing their activities efficiently which in turn enhances user satisfaction. Users can also find jobs they saved for later.
Profile
The profile page, as seen from the user’s perspective, houses all essential information (education, work experience, past projects, contact info, etc.) crucial to securing a job. Users have the freedom to edit and update their profiles, ensuring they’re always ready to make their mark.
Resources
This page was born out of both detailed user research and competitive analysis. Not a lot of job search platform provides resources that helps job seekers in navigating the job market. On this page, users can access a whole lot of resources that will help them land their dream job
Moving on
While Quest has been designed from the job seeker’s perspective, the journey doesn’t end here. I’m looking forward to explore from the recruiter’s perspective, ensuring a balanced and unbiased design for everyone.
